Truth about Linda McMahon

This video details the appalling facts about Republican U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon from Connecticut. Her World Wrestling Entertainment company's involvement with steroids. Failure to pay taxes or provide benefits to employees. Proposal to cut minimum wage, campaigns for more off-shore drilling for oil companies, cut taxes on corporations that ship jobs overseas, less regulation of financial industry, and tax cuts for the super rich.

Republicans Feign Outrage Over Deficit

Republicans claim to be outraged by deficit spending. What they fail to point out is that they created the deficits.

Glenn Beck versus World Cup

Glenn Beck's jingoistic lies about the World Cup soccer (association football) tournament. This man is truly pathetic that he takes to attacking soccer because it is popular in the rest of the world. Guess what? It is quite popular in USA as well!

Glenn Beck versus Public Education

This following video is from Glenn Beck's television program on Fox News. In this clip, Beck says that "education is not a right, it's a privilege." The video speaks for itself. However, I will add a personal note regarding someone I know who is a Beck viewer.

I have a cousin who watches Glenn Beck. This past year, his daughter was applying to college. The family was pulling their hair out, trying to come up with financing. They ended up getting over $20,000 in financial aid. If not for that aid, my cousin's daughter would never have attended the college of her choice, and probably would not have attended college at all.

I do not discuss Glenn Beck with my cousin. However, I am very curious what he would think of Beck's comment that education "is a privilege" for students who "earn it." (How many students do you know who earn $30,000 a year?)

If you assume that Glenn Beck meant that students "earn it" by getting an academic or athletic scholarship, what about the vast majority of students who do not? What Beck is suggesting is that students who cannot afford college, or do not get scholarships, should be denied a college education. That is essentially a caste system, regulating a vast number of people in the USA to second class citizenship.

I find it ironic that my cousin, who can not afford his own daughter's tuition, and accepts financial aid from the government, is lapping up Glenn Beck's remarks...saying his daughter shouldn't be able to go to college.

Actually, this goes beyond irony into the realm of insanity.

The most sickening thing about Glenn Beck are the morons who watch him. They are so ignorant, they don't even realize his views are in opposition to their own self-interest.

On the other hand, Glenn Beck's livelihood depends on the ignorance of his viewers. He certainly has an interest in perpetuating it.

"No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public." It is amazing that H. L. Mencken, who was responsible for that quote, never knew Glenn Beck.

Al Franken versus Comcast

USA mega-media giants Comcast (cable television) and NBC-Universal (TV, Movies, etc.) are planning to merge to form a super-duper mega-media corporation which will control cable TV distribution, cable and television networks, TV shows, movies (and all things media related you can imagine).

An interesting side not: The often progressive-leaning MSNBC cable network (with Keith Olberman, Rachel Maddow), which is owned by NBC-Universal, has been eerily silent about this merger. (In case you had any question about the effect media conglomeration has on free speech.)

This all comes on the heels of the colossal failure of NBC's Jay Leno Show, the cheaply produced talk show which replaced all the dramatic television series that had previously filled the 10 PM (9 PM Central) time slot. The Jay Leno Show was canceled due to complaints from local NBC affiliates about low ratings leading into their evening news programs. Despite the low ratings, Jay Leno was making money for NBC because it was cheaper to produce than dramatic programs. NBC figured they could make more money from a cheap talk show with low ratings than expensive drama series with high ratings. That was an idea that Jeff Zucker brought with him to NBC from his cable experience. Who cares about quality or ratings? It's all about making money.

On Thursday February 4, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts and NBC President Jeff Zucker testified before Congress. Read a recap of the hearing on Huffington Post.

Senator Al Franken (Democrat, Minnesota), who ironically used to be an NBC employee on Saturday Night Live, was eloquent as usual while voicing opposition to the merger.

Republican Hypocrisy

On Tuesday's Rachel Maddow Show, Maddow commented about Republicans who criticized the stimulus package passed by Congress, and then took credit for it in their home districts. She references an article about this on Politico.

This is just one more example of Republican chutzpah that is utterly amazing. And the scary truth is, this strategy of lying and hypocrisy often works.

It works best when Democrats stand around and do not expose it. This is one thing about Democrats that really bothers me. Obama and many of the Democrats in Congress seem to have this illusion that Republicans are going to change their ways and support things based on the fact that it is good policy. It is never going to happen.

Lying and hypocrisy have been Republican tactics for years. It is not going to change, and the truth is...it is the only possible way for Republicans to win elections. Republicans depend on ignorance, and people who vote against their own self-interests, in order to succeed. Democrats need to counter that strategy with truth.

I'm glad that Obama has finally realized that these Republican lies have taken a toll on his popularity, and is finally doing something to counter it. Unfortunately, a lot of damage has already been done.

Melissa Rivers

I happened to watch The Joy Behar Show recently when she was discussing Don't Ask, Don't Tell with three panelists. I'm not sure why Melissa Rivers was included on the panel, as the other two panelists were comedians. They were having a thoughtful discussion on the subject of gays in the military before the talentless, cling to her mother's celebrity, tactless, obnoxious...Melissa Rivers injected herself into the conversation.

Melissa Rivers on Joy Behar Show

Melissa Rivers' claim to fame is the fact that she is the daughter of Joan Rivers. In spite of the fact that Joan Rivers has repeatedly acknowledged that she owes her career to gay people, amazingly she is a stalwart Republican.[1] If you happen to hear Joan Rivers discussing gay people, you may notice that she doesn't stand up for gay rights, and tells stereotypical jokes.

While the other panelists were pointing out the fact that DADT is based in bigotry, Melissa Rivers stole a joke right out of her own Republican mother's handbag. First she stated that "didn't know" what effect allowing gay people to serve would have on the military. Then Melissa said that it is her "theory" that allowing gay people to serve would force gay people "back into the closet" (figure that one out). Then she comes out with this joke (I'm using that word loosely)..."Nobody rocks a uniform, with metals and stuff, like a gay man." I guess that was an effort to endear herself to gay people.

What is really sad about all of this is the fact that there are a lot of gay people who support Joan Rivers (and her daughter, as they are seemingly attached at the hip). Well, if you are gay, and you are supporting them...you are actually supporting people who are opposed to your civil rights, and whose only use for you is as fodder for their gay bashing "humor."

Melissa Rivers comments begin at 5:23 in the video linked below (if you have the stomach for watching her)...

New York Police State Republican Convention Part 1

Shocking video clips of police brutality and arrests during the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York City. Mayor Bloomberg directed the NYPD to stifle Constitutional rights of free speech and freedom of assembly by stopping any "protests" that may embarrass George Bush and the Republican party.

Clips in part 1 of this playlist are two days before the Convention even began, when police arrested 250 people during the Critical Mass bike ride, a non-partisan event which has occurred every month since 1994. Even more shocking, many of those being arrested had nothing to do with the bike ride, but had the misfortune of crossing the street while this was happening.
